Caribbean Agora (Durham Alumni Association)
Introduction
The Caribbean Agora was created in order for past students who have successfully completed Durham’s Caribbean MBA Program to continue to maintain and foster key relationships. Additionally, the association will attempt to provide support for all students who are currently in the program.
The Caribbean Agora committee comprises of eight members. The members are Mr. Ezra Maynard
- Chairman, Mr. Curtis Moore
-
Vice Chairman, Mrs. Sharon Howell-Clarke, Mr. Amit Uttamchandani, Mrs. Sophia Sam, Mrs. Elizabeth Darius-Clarke (St Lucia),
Mrs. Yvette Reid and Mr. Chiron Philips. The Caribbean Agora was officially launched at a lime held on 13th June 2008 at the
Lucky HorseShoe Steakhouse. This event was a successful event based on the feedback received. The purpose of the lime was to
meet fellow students and alumni with the intention of forging key strategic alliances with all alumni and soon to be alumni.
The five main objectives of the committee are:
- To ensure the continuity of the Caribbean MBA program which Durham provides to this region and to explore the
possibility of offering other programs that meet the needs of the business community.
- To establish a presence within the community through our involvement in non-profit ventures such as charitable work.
- To establish working relationships between the Caribbean Agora and the business community both locally and regionally.
- To facilitate social and business networking relationships between the members of the alumni.
- To establish a relationship between the Caribbean Agora and Durham’s Agora.
The Caribbean Agora is committed to ensuring that each and every one of these objectives is fulfilled. One of the first
tasks which the committee faces is that of having funds readily available to host events in the future. To this end,
we have given consideration to hosting panel discussions, lectures, dinners, lunches and various sporting events such as a
20/20 cricket match, golf and tennis tournaments just to name a few.
The Caribbean Agora is very excited about the launch of Carimec’s website since it provides a mechanism for interaction between the
business community, the Agora and the programs which are offered by Carimec. It is hoped that this will be one way in which we
can gain greater visibility into the business community and wider society.
The Caribbean Agora will also be developing a magazine which it hopes to distribute to all of its members, past and present students,
and to the business community. It will contain information about the committee, Carimec, the types of program being offered by
Carimec, upcoming events and some detail on past and present alumni.
During the month of December the Caribbean Agora will like to donate books and other Christmas gifts to a children’s home and we
will also like to host a dinner for all past and present alumni. So we encourage all of you to look out for this and many more
events soon to be announced.
