MA in Management - Structure of Programme
Learning is achieved through a combination of taught sessions with Durham Faculty,
guided reading, individual exercises and on-line support.
CORE modules
You study 6 core modules:
- Business Economics and Accounting (BEA)
- Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM)
- Organisational Behaviour (OB)
- Strategic Marketing Management (SMM)
- Strategy (S)
- Research Methods (RM)
ELECTIVE modules
You choose 3 elective modules from a varied portfolio. Those currently on offer include:
- Practising Social Marketing (PSM) *
- Buyer Behaviour and Marketing Communications (BBMC) *
- Financial Management (FM)
- Human Resource Management (HRM)
- Information Systems Management (ISM)
- International Strategic Management (ISTM)
- Small Business Management (SBM)
* only one of these two modules can be taken
DISSERTATION
The MA Management programme culminates in a 12,000-word dissertation on a
management topic agreed between you and your dissertation supervisor. It provides
an opportunity to work at an advanced level on a relevant management issue, and requires
you to demonstrate a critical understanding of the topic through utilisation of knowledge
and skills acquired throughout the programme.
Other qualifications
Partial completion of the programme may entitle you to a different qualification:
- PG Certificate: 60 credits (4 modules) are required *
- PG Diploma: 120 credits (8 modules) are required *

All Core modules, 3 electives and the dissertation are required for the award of MA in Management.
